The Queen’s Solar Design Team is a multi-disciplinary group of students interested in renewable power and sustainable homes. Since 1988, our students and faculty have designed solar vehicles that brought Queen’s to the forefront of innovation. In recent years, we have shifted our focus to solar powered housing and in 2013, we competed in the US Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon as a part of Team Ontario. Together with Carleton University and Algonquin College, we designed and built a solar powered home won that first in engineering and sixth overall in this highly competitive competition. Now, we are looking for more ways of understanding consumer trends towards green building, discovering sustainable solutions and making net-zero homes a scalable reality.
